Stamperia Braghittoni
Thirty-six years of hand-printing, between tradition and the sea
Romagna rust printing is an ancient art that originated in the East,
brought to Europe through India and arriving in Romagna around the middle of the eighteenth century,
where it became part of the local culture by decorating ox-drawn cart covers during religious processions.
At Stamperia Braghittoni, this tradition has been passed down through generations since 1989 and has never been interrupted.
Alongside traditional motifs linked to history, such as the rooster, the ear of wheat, grapes and the caveja, there are also fish, whales, dolphins, floral elements and landscapes,
also thanks to collaborations with artists such as Mantegazza, Guerra, Sughi and Pulini.
Each creation is made entirely by hand, following an artisanal printing technique that uses carved wooden blocks.
The creations include curtains, towels, bathrobes, bibs, tea towels, and table and bathroom linen sets,
shawls and accessories for the study, made from cotton, linen or linen-blend fabrics.
"My encounter with printing could be described as both accidental and destined;
I lived near a workshop that sold decorated fabrics that fascinated me.
I walked past that workshop every afternoon, until one day a tall young man with a moustache invited my friend and me inside,
He took us to the back, where he worked in the workshop, and there a whole new world opened up to us.
He gave us a printing block, we went home and started printing, and from that moment on, you could say that I never stopped.
That young man was Massimo Ferroni, and that workshop was his printing house, located at 55 Via Fiorentini,
where Stamperia Braghittoni, my own, is still located today.”
The printing of fabrics is an art that engages all five senses: smell, with the scent of colour and wood;
touch, with the roughness and thickness of the fabric, the weight of the mallet, the size of the block and the richness of the colour;
hearing, with the block pressed onto the colour and the mallet striking the block;
sight, with the magic of the fixing bath where the colours transform;
and finally taste, with the satisfaction that comes from seeing a piece of work created with one’s own hands.
Entering Roberta’s Stamperia, the first thing you notice is love and passion.
